Special event: Blankets for Children in Japan

Project Linus Headquarters has informed us they are trying to work out details to send blankets to Japan.

If you are thinking of how you can help and would like to help the children in Japan, please think of making a single layer no-sew fleece blanket for Project Linus to send.

I will send out more information as it becomes more available.

SUMMER 2011 SCHEDULE

(Schedule so far for our upcoming events)

Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. Our community events are our biggest resources for letting everyone know about our needs. You don’t have to commit large chunks of time, just come for a bit and help out and let someone else take a break.

Also, participation can be a wonderful service project for your child’s service project hours, your club, group or church to get involved with.

Any questions please call Tena

Linus Hugs 2010 1St Quarter Newsletter

Linus Hugs

2010 1st Quarter Newsletter

Hello Friends,

This year got off to an exciting start.

Disney encourages volunteering.

Project Linus partnered with Disney in their Give A Day Get A Day free pass giveaway. Disney was giving away 1,000,000 one day passes to people who gave a day of volunteering. I don’t think anyone involved expected the overwhelming response. In about ten weeks Disney succeeded in meeting their goal.

Our chapter, along with around 85 other chapters, participated and was overwhelmed with the response. Final numbers are not yet available. I would like to say THANK YOU to all my support assistants who helped with this overwhelming project. And THANK YOU to all the blankets makers who participated.

Blanket needs:

We have a great need for preemie and baby size blankets. 40”X40” is a guideline for size.

Spring Favor:

Are you ready to do some spring cleaning? Don’t forget your crafts. We are in need of cotton material, fleece or flannel, yarn (not wool or wool blends), batting. We really would appreciate your thinking of us when you de-stash your crafts.

Upcoming Events:

April 12th – Monday - We have a special speaker

Emily Hirsch, RNC, BSN Unit Manager, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit from Hamot Hospital. Emily will be speaking about the NICU and how our blankets are used with the infants and about the new infant hospital that they are opening in 2011

Upstairs classroom

April 12th

June 14th

July 12th

What we do: We sew the “LINUS” label onto each blanket, inspect them for any hazards, sort by size and prepare blankets for delivery, go through material and yarn donations, plan upcoming events, write thank you notes, BUT mostly we have a good time getting to know each other.

Upcoming Summer Events:

We are off to a good start with our preparation for our summer community events. Thanks to Disney we had a material cutting party in February and March during our monthly meetings. Four bolts of muslin were cut for our “Kids Helping Kids” blocks. My goal was to take some of the burden of this time consuming activity off the shoulders of our regular meeting attendees. We still have at least one more bolt to cut if you would like to come and help.

The next step is tracing pictures onto these blocks. We provide the pictures and tracing markers. If you would like to help, call myself or JoAnn to make arrangements to pick up a pack to trace.

Put these date on your calendar:

Plan to attend or volunteer to help for an hour or so

Senior Day at the Zoo: Wednesday July 28

Celebrate Erie Days: Friday August 20th, Sat August 21sy, Sunday August 22nd.

End of Year Report:

2009 Totals of Blankets Delivered:

National total: 3,011,944

NWPA total: 2,296

NWPA total number of blankets delivered since 1998:15,903

I hope you all know how very much I appreciate every single one of you, your support of our chapter and help in keeping it going.

LINUS HUGS TO ALL OF YOU,

Tena
